WHAT IS IT?
You’ve probably done fantasy skating before - but not quite like this. For those who aren’t familiar with the concept, fantasy sports is a genre of online gaming where real people put together imaginary (“virtual”) teams consisting of real athletes from a sport. Teams then compete against each other based on the actual performance of the real athletes. Rocker Fantasy Skating takes it a step further - you’ll create a team of your “own” skaters assembled from the elements of real skaters.
WHY ARE THERE ONLY 100ish OF US?
Definitely not trying to be exclusive for the sake of exclusivity. Being that this is the alpha version (a first experiment of the concept), most of the behind-the-scenes will be pretty analog, so I’m trying to make sure that results are posted as quickly as possible and any potential troubleshooting can be solved. I am also limiting it to Worlds so that I can get feedback and (hopefully) create something real for next season.
This is an alpha test version of the game. I am currently looking at concept and gameplay over graphics and functionality. Functionality is minimal and will be the focus of the beta version (if it gets that far). Please bear with it being a bit of a bare-bones operation right now.
HOW DOES ROCKER FANTASY SKATING WORK?
Each person will be randomly assigned to a Skating Club (the goal would be for people to be able to pick their own Skating Club in the future) of 10 teams. Each team will consist of one skater/team from each discipline. Each skater/teams will have their short program and free skate made up of elements from different skaters (e.g., your skater in the men’s field has a SP with Hanyu’s axel, Chen’s jump combo, Jin’s solo jump, Brown’s combo spin, and so forth). You can pick a maximum of one element from a skater for each program (it resets in the free skate).
Note that I’ll be doing some variations on the game throughout the week of Worlds, so don’t be surprised if things change a bit between rounds.
WILL IT BE FUN?
I mean, I hope so. But you’ll be the judge of that.
ARE THERE PRIZES?
YES!!! Rocker Gear on the line.
WILL I BE ABLE TO TELL YOU HOW GREAT/BAD THIS GAME IS?
Absolutely. I’ll be sending a feedback survey to you at the end of the game! Please be honest and constructive with your feedback!
