The Olympic season was where it seemed like every skater was itching to return to a program that gave them a sense of stability and comfort. So it was a huge surprise when Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier decided to scrap their already-brand new free dance mid-season for an even newer one just a month before the Olympics.

But then again, Gilles/Poirier have never been ones to conform to the norms of figure skating.

After a solid debut of their new James Bond free dance at Canadian Nationals, they worked out the kinks and delivered the greatest program of their career so far at the Olympics. It was bold, it was clean, it was underscored.
