2026 US Championships preview (women): Who wins another title?

January 5, 2026

The women who have won seven of the last eight US Championships—Bradie Tennell (2018, 2021), Alysa Liu (2019, 2020), Isabeau Levito (2023), and Amber Glenn (2024, 2025)—are all in St. Louis this week vying for another title, and perhaps more importantly, one of the three Olympic spots in Milano. Each of the four have had their moments this season, and when you add defending bronze medalist Sarah Everhardt to the mix, it will surely be a nailbiter.

GOLD Alysa Liu - It’s hard to believe that the last time Liu won the US Championships, the COVID pandemic hadn’t been declared yet. But then again, it’s hard to believe that we would be talking about World Champion Alysa Liu coming into 2026 Nationals looking for her third title. Indeed, she won her second of two back-to-back titles in six years ago, and then retired after the 2022 Olympics, only to come back last season and (somehow?!) win her first World title. And now, fresh off her first Grand Prix Final title, perhaps with a triple axel and definitely with a revamped Lady Gaga free skate, she looks for her third US title this week.

SILVER Amber Glenn - Like Liu, Glenn is looking for a third US title. And like Liu, Glenn had a lot of potential as a junior skater. But unlike Liu, Glenn took longer to get to the top after her junior years, and it wasn’t until this past Olympic cycle that she found her voice. And she comes into this Nationals as a slight underdog, whereas she was the heavy undefeated favorite last year, and that might throw her a bit of an advantage. The short program will be crucial, as that has felt the shakier of the two programs this season.

BRONZE Isabeau Levito - Amid this season’s back and forth between Liu and Glenn, the 2024 World silver medalist has flown a bit under the radar this season. But let’s not forget that she is one of nine women this season to have broken 210 points internationally, and she’s been generally very consistent this season. Of the three, top women here, she’s the most likely to get the underrotation calls, so that will be the biggest hurdle for her. But barring a disaster here, she should looks solid for that Olympic spot.

4. Bradie Tennell - After seasons of major injuries that set her back, including the one that took her out of the last Olympic season, Tennell has been climbing her way back. She was fourth here last season, and her performances this season have been steady but not spectacular. She’s got an outside shot here for the top three, but it will take something big for her to make it to Milano, especially given how the top three have been skating this season.

5. Sarah Everhardt - Bronze here last season, Everhardt was one who many thought would really make a run for an Olympic spot this season. But it’s been less than ideal in her trajectory, with inconsistency that we didn’t see last year and without the swagger that we were perhaps expecting from her. But it’s been another month and a half since her last competition, so you better believe she will be coming in prepared.

6. Starr Andrews - We’ve never seen Starr Andrews quite like the Starr Andrews who skated lights out at Skate America in mid-November. Her technical content is not as strong as the others, but when she’s on, she’s got the potential to put up some big scores. In her eight previous appearances on the senior level at Nationals, she’s finished in the top six five of those times, so she’s very at home at Nationals.

7. Sophie Joline von Felten - Last year’s junior champ is making her senior debut and bringing her triple axel and quad salchow to the mix. Every year, there seems to always be one first-year senior who makes it big, and von Felten is the one who has the biggest potential to make a splash here.

8. Emilia Nemirovsky - But another junior-to-senior who could make a big splash—and has big jumps to boot—is Nemirovsky. She’s had trouble putting down consistent performances, but when she does, she’s got a high ceiling, as evidenced by a 200+ skate at Sectionals in November.

9. Sherry Zhang - Fifth here last year, Zhang was the junior-to-senior skater who made the big splash last year. Her season thus far has been middling.

10. Sonja Hilmer - She’s earned her cult favorite status as one of the most original skaters out here, and her short program, especially, will be a crowd favorite here. She will be making her fourth appearance at Nationals after a ninth-place finish last year.
