For most of her career, Anna Pogorilaya relied on fairly heavy and dramatic music for her competitive programs. But her short program this season was a huge shift in genre for her - it showcased a sophisticated, sexy side of her skating that she has not shown in the past.

Much of her transformation this season was thanks to a maturity in her understanding of music and choreography that started late last season. And the rest of it was the result of her exponential increase in confidence in her own place at the top of women's skating. Both of those combined to create the kind of performance quality - at its very best at the European Championships - that she delivered in this program.

Her season may not have ended the way that she wanted it to, but she proved over the past year that she knows how to come back from adversity.
