10. Evgenia Medvedeva RUS
2017 Worlds short program
Very few skaters in the history of the sport have come close to the kind of consistency and dominance that Evgenia Medvedeva has delivered over the past two seasons. Sure, we've seen skaters win time and time again, but to do it in this era of women's skating means having to flirt with perfection every time you step on the ice. And that's exactly what Medvedeva has done, and that's exactly why she's going into the Olympic season as such a favorite even when the depth in women's skating continues to increase.
We've all come to know her as a skater who takes a piece of music that the audience may not know the story to and tells a story with it. It's different from traditional character programs, because those programs are skated to music with backstories that are well known. And this short program at Worlds is her strongest work to date - and though it wasn't the world record version, for me, it was the most committed that we saw from her. And of course, the jumps were expectedly phenomenal.
